This album started out being titled “HeavyPink”, after an album we were working on in 2008 but never completed. It was also the name of a side project that I have been doing since 2010. The HeavyPink project applies the concept of no musical boundaries and allows me to put my love and respect for music into one place. When the lineup change happened in Mos Generator in 2014, I thought I would be able to easily direct the band into territory mimicking the concept of HeavyPink, much of our last full length, Abyssinia, was written and recorded when the change was happening (three of the songs are actually from the 2008 sessions) so the influence of Jono and Sean was not apparent. When I began to conceptualize this new album, I wanted the musical landscape to be broader than the past albums. We even recorded two HeavyPink songs to try and bring the concept together. Other songs included a 13-minute piece titled “Until We Meet Again” which we ended up pulling segments from and building our contribution to the “Planet of Doom” animated film. We also considered re-working a few unreleased MG songs and even an unreleased song from a band I was in called Stone Axe. I had the song order mapped out and we had started to track the songs but then we went on tour for seven weeks and that changed everything. On the road I realized that we were making a mid-tempo heavy art record that didn’t really represent what we are like live, so we decided to push back the deadline of the record, so we could write new songs and re-record the tunes that we felt needed a bit of an adrenalin boost. I had also decided to change the album title to “Shadowlands”, mostly because we had been playing the song live and it was a good representation of the kind of album I wanted to make. The lyrics also worked very well with the cover art painted by Adam Burke. The bulk of the album was recorded in three sessions at HeavyHead Recording Company in Port Orchard WA. Session #1 (June 2017), Session #2 (November 2017), Session #3 (January 2018). We also ended up using the bed tracks from a few recent jam room demos. After the reworking and re titling of the album I think we have something even more diverse than originally planned. The influence and style of Jono and Sean is making its way into the songs I write and giving them an angle that has not been explored by the band in our 18 year history. T.R. February 2018

Stoner rock/metal with a classic rock filter with intelligence. Great song and timing structures, heavy, big catchy riffs. Vocals are in the level. This album definitely has more of an edge compared to their follow-up album, but it's not even fair to compare one album with another of the same artist when they evolve.
