This is my favorite Van Halen song. It’s the first song on side two of Van Halen II and a total ripper. I’ve wanted to do it for years so this is a real treat. I sent Jono a scratch guitar and click track about 9 months ago and he finally ended up recording it in January during the last drum sessions for the new Mos Generator album. After he did the drums I decided that the scratch guitar had a decent tone and performance so I kept that and moved on to vocals. I did the vocals the day we got back from a gig in Anchorage, Alaska. My throat was raw after being on a plane for a lot of the day and I figured it would be a good time to try and get that David Lee Roth rasp. Once that was done I borrowed a guitar (A Jackson with a floyd rose or something like it) and went for the lead. Luckily it’s not one of Eddie’s scorchers so it didn’t take long to nail it after I adapted to that guitar style. The only thing left was Booth’s bass and a mix. TR - 2/28/18
